Biography Beyond Us, "Ode to Mummenshanz"
The Act Ode to Mummenshanz by Beyond Us theatre Company is a stylistic performance between two life-size silver industrial air conditioning tubes. The show is a 6 to 12 minute love story that amazes, moves and delights audiences. The tubes dance to Phillip Glass's haunting music in a harmonious trance of attraction and shyness. The act is dance meets theatre meets music, meets light in a fluid harmonious spectacle.
About the Company 'Beyond Us' The act was developed in 1996 by Debra Mulholland for the Wellington International theatre festival in New Zealand. Debra Mulholland studied at the famous International theatre school '|Ecole Jacques Lecoq' in Paris. With Ode to Mummenschanz Beyond Us has won several prestigious awards in New Zealand and around Europe, including the Marcus Marconi award during the International street Festival of Rotterdam.
The futuristic image of Beyond Us is usually used as an opening act or finale for company events. The show can also be used as one component integrated with other shows for large visual performances. Moreover the act functions as an eye catcher during fairs, expositions, product presentations, theatre festivals and spectacles. It is futuristic and abstract allowing the event and audience to dream their own story (theme) onto it.
